What's happening in 4/5/6?

Our conscientious students in Years 4/5/6 are currently studying Factual Recounts. We have explored the structure and language features of this text type and viewed a range of multimodal texts.

Most recently we viewed a Behind The News (BTN) episode relating to shark culling. From this, students have been working on a BTN episode about this controversial topic, where they present and film a 30 second news clip. Our students look forward to sharing these with the rest of the school for assembly next week.

Have you heard of Guiseppe Arcimboldo?

During week 2 our students were set a homework task, with two options, to either research and discover information about Guiseppe Arcimboldo or to create a similar artwork to one of his original pieces. We were very impressed with their work and it was very exciting to find out about this interesting artist! Mrs Parker also discovered an iPad App, called 'Vegetable Me' which turns photos into vegetable artworks.

Food Glorious Food!

Our 4/5/6 students have continued their studies of Nutrition and it's links withn the key learning areas of Science and Technology and PDHPE this week (5). We are extremely lucky to have Heather working with our class, sharing her expertise and knowledge. We are currently considering the foods that we eat and looking at delicious and nutritious options. Here is a recipe supplied by Heather for you to try:

Jordanian Lentil dish - 'Magroob'.

This is a wonderful way to completely transform both lentils and rice. No one will guess the ingredients!

Total preparation time - 30 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • Olive oil
  • 4 large onions, sliced
  • 1 1/4 cups lentils (red)
  • 3/4 cup rice (long grain)
  • water
  • salt

Method:

1. Fry onion in a generous amount of olive oil, until starting to blacken around the edges.

2. Cover lentils with water, bring to the boil, then simmer until soft. Add more water as required. Then add rice and more water. Cook over a medium heat and keep stirring intermittently and adding water as required, so it doesn't stick too much.

3. When cooked it will resemble mashed potato. Season with salt and add 1/2 the onoin. Let it sit, so the flavours blend.

4. Spoon onto a serving dish and place the rest of the onions on top.
